In 1843, the Philadelphia firm of Carey and Hart reprinted the Englishman Edward Bevan’s classic 1827 text on bees, offering a more concise version of The Honey Bee for a practical-minded American audience. Printed cheaply in double columns, the book includes numerous illustrations imbedded in the text to appeal to a popular audience. The result is a book of only 128 pages, down from the 404 page original.
