In 1789, the entomologist Johann Jakob Roemer (1761-1819) produced one of the great achievements of Swiss entomology, Genera insectorum Linnaei et Fabricii. The 36 plates in the volume were drawn and engraved by the artist J. R. Schellenberg, himself a noted entomologist, and are noted for their lifelike detail.
