| Like many other universities, the campus at Massachusetts State College (now UMass Amherst) was used during the Second World War as a training ground for military personnel. In 1943 and 1944, the 58th College Training Detachment (Air Crew) of the U.S. Army Air Forces published the newspaper, //Take Off//. The run of this newspaper is not quite complete and is somewhat irregularly numbered: issues for Mar. 27-April 10, 1943 numbered v.1, no.2-v.1,no.3; issue for April 17, 1943 numbered v.1, no. 5.
