+Under the leadership of UMass President John W. Lederle, the campus experienced an enormous expansion in the 1960s, both in size and scope.  The support the growth in scientific research, particularly at the graduate level, the Lederle Graduate Research center complex was constructed beginning in 1966.  The complex housed the departments of Chemistry and Astronomy in the high rise tower, an early computer center, a branch library (now the Science and Engineering Library), and Graduate Center offices.

 +
+The building connects to both [[g:goessmann_laboratory|Goessmann Laboratory]] and the [[c:conte_center|Conte Polymer Research Center]].
