The University of Massachusetts Amherst College of Nursing is a college located within the university that was founded in 1953 as the Division of Nursing, even though classes were offered during the 1949/1950 academic year. In 1960, it was renamed the School of Nursing, and stayed this way until it was merged with the Department of Public Health to become the Division of Nursing within the School of Health Sciences in 1973. In 1989, it was split off into the School of Nursing, and was renamed to the College of Nursing in 1 July, 2013.
