The National Debate Tournament began at the United States Military Academy in 1947. The concept of a national debate tournament grew out of West Point’s desire to provide extra curricular activities and to expand their liberal arts offerings for cadets during the post World War II era.

The collections consists mostly of tournament booklets, ballots, correspondence, committee minutes, and tapes of the debates with accompanying transcripts.
