Graduates of Tulane University and the University of Pennsylvania, respectively, Ken and Sherri Nahan operated the Nahan Art galleries in New York City, New Orleans, and Tokyo for many years, exhibiting, publishing, and selling works by an international stable of contemporary artists. The galleries featured one man shows by Picasso, Miro, Chagall, Le Corbusier, Rafael Olbinski, Dorothea Tanning, Philippe Halsman, Max Papart, Theo Tobiasse, James Coignard, and Oscar DeMejo, among many others.

Defying plans to retire in 1997, the Nahans have kept themselves busy in the art world. Sherri Nahan founded Patinae, Inc., in 1992, representing artists such as Rafal Olbinski, Tobiasse, Papart, Coignard, and Demejo, among others, while Ken Nahan founded Nahan Fine Art in 1997, which offers paintings, prints, and unique works by contemporary artists, as well as consultation and curatorial services for artists, galleries, and collectors.

Scope of collection

The prints in the Nahan collection represent the high state of achievement in French fine art printing in the 1970s and 1980s, and includes works on handmade paper by four master printmakers: the Max Papart, James Coignard, and Theo Tobiasse, all from France, and Nissan Engel, from Israel.
